Why does Trinity Church exist?
We generally consider ourselves good people. Thus, we approach God with an air of entitlement. We believe we deserve the good things in this life and have earned a positive afterlife.
As a result, we want a “God out there” to:
- protect our goodness,
- give us the good things we deserve,
- help us on our terms,
- and take us on into heaven.
In contrast, the living God is not a human concept, a projection “out there.” God is real, loves us, and wants to “come into” us. Yet, He will not enter and serve our selfish delusion. Serving a lie is not love.
Due to His abounding love, He sends a Person of Himself, the Holy Spirit, to awaken us to the depth of and negative consequences for our sinful delusion. We come to realize that we need the real God instead of the “Man Upstairs,” but we sense that the abyss between Holy Him and sinful selfish us is just too infinitely deep and wide; however, this same Holy Spirit graciously lifts the chin of convicted humans upward, to see Jesus the Christ, the Son of God. Jesus died on the Cross for our sins, and was raised again on the third day for the forgiveness of our sins--to bridge the abyss.
When we see Him as revealed, confess our sins, and place our trust in Him, our sins are forgiven. The Holy Spirit comes to live in unholy us. Then, this same Holy Spirit develops us into people who faithfully think, speak, and act in accord with God. We come to look like Jesus!
Trinity Church exists to function as the Body of Christ, to lovingly challenge people to wake up, look up, and believe in Jesus!
